Conversations to avoid

For a long time now, I have avoided all conversations about politics. No two people think the same way and generally consider themselves to be right, so when confronted with a person that thinks differently (and also thinks they’re right) you end up with a long conversation that’s 1. not entertaining, 2. not enjoyable, 3. noneducational, and 4. you’re always in a slightly sour mood afterward.

That’s no fun.

Whats worse is that so many people want to talk about American politics.

I had a conversation with a Canadian girl last night… I should have known better.  Shes not aggressive or anything like that – in fact shes very intelligent, well spoken, pretty cool, likes tequila, and even cute as hell to top it off. Anyway, she stated several times that she didn’t like Bush. Why do non-USA citizens worry so much about US politics?  Why?  Easy… because the US is the single most powerful country in the world and greatly contributes to the prosperity of most other countries on the planet.

Oh… so of course people would be worried… but hold on, then doesn’t that mean that others should be bending over to kiss Americas ass?  One would think—but no, America isn’t allowed to say “hold the fuck on, you owe your economy and existence to us” No, that would be rude.  Why would it matter to Germany weather McCain or Obama win? Why? Because they know that Obama will make them a lot of money on his liberal trade policies. They know that he’ll lower restrictions on foreign ownership of business and give in to medicine trades. Germany has a massive pharmaceutical industry… all those uber expensive diabetes and cancer drugs?…. Germany.

So somehow its OK for other countries to try pulling our strings but its never OK for us to say “hold the fuck on! We built this ‘sumbitch, keep your hands off!” It’s OK for other countries to demand cheap/free trade and to demand we don’t subsidize our farmers… all the while trying to force us to buy their crops.??  Screw that! Our food is cheap because we make it worthwhile for farmers to overproduce….. you don’t do that so your food is expensive.  Your problem, not ours. We found a solution, you should try it.

Giving more aid to other countries, especially Africa?  Screw that too!  We rebuild entire towns for other countries.. we even give billions in aid that goes into the pockets of corrupt foreign officials… and then give some more! Pakistan– ungrateful sacks of shit. We rebuild shitloads after that earthquake and they had the fucking balls to complain that we didn’t give enough. Fuck them all.  After Hurricane Katrine, other countries sent huge donations of:::::rice.  They sent rice to a country that produces so much rice that its exported to Asia. Yes, I know exactly how bad we looked when our New Orleans scummy people started acting like little bitches and the politicians pointed fingers. That was our learning lesson. We don’t get disasters like that often. Other countries get the same ones over and over, but no change.

So this is what I have to hold back on every time I hear a non US person rope me into a convo about American poitics. Bite my tounge. If America is so damn important to everyones well being, they sure as fuck have a funny way of expressing gratitude.
