It took several e-mails but all I can get out of them is that the Flickr account (4 years of photos) was deleted for violation the Terms of Service and that they reserve the right to delete accounts without any notice or warnings of any kind. The TOS reads much like the Homeland Security Act in that its fairly vague and uses broad terms without defining them. Ironically, they have entire groups on there devoted solely to raunchy porn, yet they refuse to tell me what I posted that violated their terms of service… and they not only canceled my Flickr account, but everything related to any Yahoo services. Yahoo TOS which seems only to open up for whatever country you’re in.. apparently these geniuses seem to think my IP is in Singapore.
Ironically, their community guidelines (requirement in the TOS) says this:
Do moderate your content.
You need to take responsibility for ensuring that what you upload is appropriately flagged. If your judgment proves to be poor, we’ll moderate your account to match appropriate ratings for safe search and/or content type and send you a warning.
Hmm…. looks like they skipped the reflagging and warning part. I’ve taken a screenshot for posterity.
I paid for 2 additional years recently and they refuse to explain the reason for deletion. I did notice something else – Flickr and Yahoo Mail are different services so why would both services be blocked from an infraction on one of them?
However, since they cannot tell me how I violated the TOS and are merely claiming I did, I state Flickr (a Yahoo company) to have stolen my money by breach of agreement by refusing the service that was paid for. I have asked for the reason and their responses fail to describe what, if any, infraction was committed.
Yahoo, as of this writing, you have failed to show any violation of the Terms of Service. If you do in the future, I will withdraw my claim – until then, this post will remain.
I’ve written several times and still, the single question remains unanswered. When a person goes to jail, they are not convicted of “breaking the law”. When a contract is signed, its not “We’ll pay you for stuff”. Doctors don’t issue prescriptions for “medicine”. So what did I do?
