I had a local recently tell me that a certain girl was the “muse” for a Boracay basketball team. Huh? She kept talking: “you know muse? Angel, she’s their angel”. I started to explain that a muse was a source of creative inspiration, not an angel or spirit, but she cut me off to insist I was wrong.
There’s only 2 usages for muse. The modern usage isĀ a source of inspiration and creativity or the act of thinking over a subject. There is no creativity in basketball. The original usage is a reference to 9 of Zeus’ daughters: the Muses inspired artists, philosophers, musicians, and especially poets.
She should have used a term like ‘patron saint’.
