I have been asked many times about why I hate brownouts so much since Boracay is all about outside activities anyway. Guess what, you can suck on the great outside. I don’t like sailboats, sunsets, humidity, bright sunlight, food poisoning, or windless and cloudless days where the water is like glass ….. Which is what Boracay is all about. So they ask “why the hell are you here to start with? Stop bitching and leave?” I reply that there’re also more ladyboys than sailboats, does that mean it’s a tourism requirement as well? Yea right, now either shut up or strap on a tranny. The biggest reason for not liking brownouts happened when I first arrived years ago: a brownout and the hotel generator died. You see, I was fresh meat. New to the topics, clearly not used to humidity. So on this fateful day I was steaming like a clam and…. there was no.where.to.go for refuge. Yup, thats it in a nutshell. I refuse to do more than lie in bed spread eagle for maximum heat dissipation because the slightest exertion will cause me to sweat and there’s no place to go for aircon. Theres not the option of ‘cooling off’ regardless if you need it or not. Its like losing your credit card just after withdrawing a thousand dollars….pretty unlikely you’ll need it before the new one arrives but if so, the option is not there and yer’ screwed. I should have been keeping track of all the brownouts so far this year, it’s been a lot. Todays was from 7am to 2:30pm so a lil over 7 hrs, about two hours shorter than normal.

There are a lot of colder places I’ve been thinking about lately. Unfortunately, those aren’t high turnover places where you can meet new people on vacation every day. The main draw is that everyday is like a Saturday at the frat-house where nobody really cares if you’re drinking @ 9am and wear the same beach clothes for several days in a row.
There really aren’t too many drawbacks to being here, but the heat is a HUGE one. Once a person gets too hot to be comfortable…. then absolutely nothing, no amount of fun activities or beautiful scenery, will put them in a better mood. Unfortunately, I happen to be one of those people that humidity overwealms. The heat and humidity are the single biggest buzzkill for me, otherwise I’d be active almost everyday. Its hard to not be miserable when I’m sweating heavily while merely sitting still.

So why not Denver/Colorado or Baguio? There are many cold places on earth. There must be something you liked there before…
