Useless information

Filed under: Uncategorized — JD @ 8:04 am

Hot glue guns don’t use glue. It’s a polymer (plastic). So if you’re too lazy to go buy more 3-for-a-dollar plastic bowls, or just finally want to get some use out of the glue-gun thats been in the closet for the last five years…here’s your chance. It seals plastic, is non-conducting, and has a melting point many times hotter than boiling water. Enjoy.

Condoms for the Winter (in Antarctica)

Condoms for Antarctica

source

(this is the most blandest, under lubricated, thick walled, boring condom out there….obviously HR had something to do with its selection)

Intrepid souls braving the cold climes of Antarctica clearly find traditional ways of keeping warm.

McMurdo Station has taken delivery of 16,488 condoms. The shipment last month constitutes a year’s supply, ensuring the frisky can stay safe in the sack.

The station’s manager, Bill Henriksen, said he was initially surprised by the delivery but said there was “not really” anything unusual about McMurdo staff.

“During the summertime we’ve got a normal population of 1100 people and this is for the year round not for the 125 people we have here in the winter,” he said.

The last flight out of McMurdo before winter was on February 26. There will be no relief from winter’s darkness until the first sunrise of spring, on August 20.

“There are some people that tend to get a little bit bored but, for the most part, people who come down here know how to occupy their time,” Henriksen said.

The condoms would be freely available to staff avoiding any embarrassing purchases.

“Since everybody knows everyone, it becomes a little bit uncomfortable we’d prefer to just provide them and do it that way so that people don’t do without.”

Ok…I looked it up and averaged the staff population for McMurdo over the summer/winter fluxuations…and that comes to about 27 condoms per person, per year. shoot…if only a few people are getting nookie, I would be strutting tall as ever into the store, slap a few dollars down loudly and announce to anyone within earshot “If you don’t mind, I would sincerely like to purchase one of your fine prophylactics. Yes sir, I need a condom!”

McCain and Pictures

Filed under: Uncategorized — JD @ 8:55 am

Some people have told me they’re seeing McCain ads on these pages. From the people I asked (all you non-commenting punks) it doesnt happen for ppl outside the USA. When I get around to it, I’ll change the settings on Googles AdSense, at least I think I can opt out of political ads. Its not like anyone is gonna click on those.

Pictures module…I dont know why its happening but the album page shows thumbnails but clicking on them appears to create a blank page instead of enlarging the pic - there is a rectangle in the middle of that second page with a title of the pic and clicking that brings it up finally. I’m not sure why thats happening but I’ll try fixing that as well.

Myanmar Trying to Beat Congo as Stupidest Nation

Myanmar has been making public statements about this cyclone relief-aid fiasco that paints them as just a pack of idiots with less intelligence than a child. Remember not long ago, Congo had ignorant people running around claiming sorcerers/witch doctors were extorting money from them or else have their penis shrunken….and the police were so stupid, they actually went out to arrest the witch doctors. Myanmar isnt that far yet, but they can see the finishline now.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080606/ap_on_re_as/myanmar

They are accusing foreign media of faking disaster area camera footage and saying that the international media is colluding with “unscrupulous elements” to tarnish their image by claiming that people arent getting disaster aid. Their image? They already have one of the crappiest images in the world! This is them:

  • They refuse 22 heavy US helicopters that can drop aid to almost everyone in only 3 days - for the disaster that is now over a month old.
  • A comedian spent his own money delivering aid and was arrested when he came back and said the government wasn’t lifting a finger in that area.
  • In the Irrawaddy delta, the government wouldn’t send aid but they sent troops to arrest a film crew making a tape of the disaster.
  • Amnesty International has recorded several cases where people are only given aid if they enter into a type of forced labor by troops.
  • Several US Navy ships with enough aid for almost the entire country have left Myanmar ports after being refused admittance for 3 solid weeks.
  • 3 weeks after the cyclone, they finally agreed to let UN Food helos in - but only after they heard they were grounded in Bangkok.
  • 4 Weeks after the fact, they finally let some C-130’s fly a few million pounds of food into the city.
  • They have publicaly stated their fear that the US only wants to deliver aid in order to steal their oil assets. (they have oil?)

And they think WE are ruining their image?

Waking up with a headache

Filed under: Uncategorized — JD @ 6:31 am

I’m not liking this headache-thing in the morning. Sober too.

Well, crap. I just burned breakfast too. I was soaking some rice in simmering cream-of-shroom soup and my dumbass turned it on high instead of low. Burnt rice anyone? Damn, I was hoping to eat a bit and go back to sleep for the headache. Looks like I’m gonna have to march down to the beach in this soon to be humid sunny day (because its raining now) and grab a bite to eat.

Tokyo Gives Away Cannabis

Canine customs training event, using real passenger bags instead of training bags, bag that had “a package of cannabis” is not found by the dogs. Someone just got some weed from the Tokyo cops!

Tue May 27, 11:07 AM ET

TOKYO (Reuters) - One of the travelers who arrived at Tokyo’s Narita airport over the weekend may have picked up an unusual souvenir from customs — a package of cannabis.

A customs official hid the package in a suitcase belonging to a passenger arriving from Hong Kong as a training exercise for sniffer dogs Sunday, but lost track of both drugs and suitcase during the practice session, a spokeswoman for Tokyo customs said.

Customs regulations specify that a training suitcase be used for such exercises, but the official said he had used passengers’ suitcases for similar purposes in the past, domestic media reported.

“The dogs have always been able to find it before,” NHK quoted him as saying. “I became overconfident that it would work.”

Anyone who finds the package should contact Tokyo customs as soon as possible, the spokeswoman said.

Knocking on the door.

Filed under: Uncategorized, daily happenings — Tags: , — JD @ 2:19 pm

She knocked on the door loudly for 5 minutes, every 15 minutes for two hours. Thats not determination, thats fucking stupid. I have one rule about the ‘outside’ here - don’t ever do anything that will create any kind of attention. Pretty simple huh? This list is pretty much a breakdown - applies to friends, not paying guests.

  • no knocking on doors unless its really quiet
  • no crying
  • no loud conversations
  • no ‘loudspeaker’ function on the cell phone
  • no bringing people up here w/o prior notice
  • if it’s daylight, generally stay the hell inside
  • no talking to neighbors
  • no-no-no talking to the landlords downstairs, just smile-say you don’t know-and don’t stop walking
  • no cigarette butts on the ground (all trash included)

Pretty easy stuff. But the door knocking is my peeve with her. Every time she’s done it, I lose my temper in an embarrassing way. But it happens all the damn time. She looks up with these puppy dog ayes and says ‘I’m sowwy..” And that just makes me madder. Its a massive wooden door and a person has to beat the hell out of it to be heard inside the rooms. But by then, it sounds like construction going on nearby…which is exactly what I though it was today. You can tell I’m in a bad mood these past few days.

She knows its a pet peeve of mine, but still never connects the dots as to why I get pissed off.

Three (3) Brown-Outs in a Single Day on Boracay

I’m beginning to sound like a broken record since every post is about the brown-outs here on Boracay. Today, we had three of them. Not one, not two, but three (3) brown-outs in a single day.

Actually, I should count it as 4 since there was another one last night after I had gotten off the computer. I was down at Blue Mango last night playing with a friends new puppy and sure enough, the power went out.Bbut being a business, they have backup battery lights and a large generator.

Earlier today, we lost power a little after noonish for about an hour. Then we lost it again shortly before sunset but I was napping so I dont know how long it was. Finally, we lost it about 20:00 tonight (8:00 pm) for only about half an hour. That one was dangerous since it started with down-volting then surges - power outage then back up a few seconds later - then down aaaand then up - and finally down for half an hour.

I’m going to keep track of every brown-out that happens here so bear with me. I don’t know why no one else on the island is reporting this stuff. It definitely has to be affecting tourism. I mean, all these smaller places on Boracay don’t have generators and when the power goes out, their guests are in the same boat as myself and at the whims of the weather. (more…)

Tokay Gecko

That big, huge, monsterous gecko that lives in the house…well, she might be dead. I’ve had a rash of cats getting into the house lately from the balcony and even a fight in my kitchen the other night….but last night, I saw the geckos tail. About 3 inches of it anyway. On the floor in an area that she never goes. I think the cats might have gotten her but at least I know she put a hurtin’ on them…she was a mean fu*ker.  At about 18 inches long, she was just starting to warm up to me. I was feeding her cicadas from the front porch (she always hangs out in the kitchen at night). These cats are hungry all the time and I doubt they would have left the tail section unless they had the body. They even steal whole chicken quarters when I’m marinating them and recently jumped on the HOT grill to get at the chicken carcass that I was searing.

just not feeling it

Filed under: Uncategorized — JD @ 10:39 am

It’s been a week, maybe two. I’m just not feeling it these days.  Not so much that I’m ill but more like I dont feel motivated enough to get out.

I got a call last night really late: “I’m down at Red Pirates, come get me! I’m so druuuunk!” Nope, she wasn’t there. No one had seen her. Then I get another call an hour later…”I’m gonna be at Red Pirates baby….come get me…I’m so druuuunk”.  To which I said no. Nope, no way, not happening, dont want to see you, stop calling me.

Oh, and to those of you staying here over the past few weeks…..DAYMN!  How did you manage to use that much water? My bill was 4 times what it was when we had 4 people living here full time! Oh well, thats why we ask for a little rent money.

I’ve paid all the bills. Paid the rent. Gotten my mail. Done my laundry. Finished the current assignments. Burned the trash. Swept the kitchen. Washed the dishes. Put water in the fridge. Updated my browser. Edited some php code. Sent a resume out. Turned down some nookie. Cooked some noodles.  Guess thats all I’ve done this morning.

Now, I guess I could: replenish the 2-bottle tanduay stock, buy some coke-cola, pay my Red Pirates tab, clean my room, wash all the countertops, clean a few bathrooms, get my taxes sorted out, pack up all my things to see if I can fit it all in the event I have to leave, super-clean my now damaged Mk-25 regulators, buy a lighter, buy some real food, clean the fridge,

As you can see, I’m now hosting my own blog just so I can control it completely. It might take me some time to tweak it just right, but thats OK. I like doing that kind of stuff. Small stuff like layout and for some reason, the tags at the bottom are backwards about ‘older’ and ‘newer’ posts.
