Boracay lost its standings, didnt make a single ‘top destination’ list

Well, the ratings are in and Boracay not only lost the questionable rankings they had but this time, it’s from the largest traveler site around and they didnt make a single list!

Trip Advisor Awards 2008 - it’s a pdf file so you should know how to save it.

The thing is that a few years ago, it somehow mad a top-10 list on AskMen.com as one of the best beaches in the workd. It was odd because there wasnt a poll conduucted and no research was done. If you looked, you could not find where they came up with the list…several dozen commentors asked that same question and never got an answer. Hundreds of commentors total and not a one agreed with the list.

Then, last year, a Yahoo list came out that listed it in the top 10. But they admitted on the travel pages once that almost every vote came from the Philippines itself…not exactly very accurate to list it as a world class location when almost all the voters are people that have never been out of the country. And that list is STILL being used today. But thats OK, if they want to believe it then cool, I’ll use it too on my commercial sites and make money from them.

But the largest peer/traveler site in the world is www.TripAdvisor.com . It used to be Lonely Planet but they simply stopped updating the site and its a pain to navigate as well as having to hold multiple logins for different sections. Trip Advisor, on the other hand, had a massive amount of features and its really easy to navigate and best of all…it has the most travel reviews of any site around. Sure, theres a lot of fake stuff, just look at the Boracay pages and you’ll see reviews by single-post accounts that are obviously written by a resort owner or a marketing person. (real people don’t use travel brochure words to describe a trip). But I’m getting of topic.

They have Top 100 lists and then Top 25 lists for each region and Boracay didnt make it onto ANY list. OOPS!

Trip Advisor 2008 Destinations

I’m laughing my ass of about this. Unlike Yahoo and AskMen, this is compiled from real travelers reviews and not quickie polls.

Sony camera review- gone downhill

Its a sweet camera as far as quality goes on images and video…but it sucks to high hell in so many other areas that I do not like it one bit.

Sony blew it this time

Sony DSc-G1

It’s got wireless..that doesnt WORK! Its cool enough to let me set the router password and whatnot…but for some reason, no one can see it on the net. Oh, sure you can designate another device to send it to…but thats what the hell blootooth is for! Why the hell would I need a 3G camera?  Whoopidy-do! It still put me back $600 bones!

Lets see:

  • Case-opening is a pain and slider is nosiy.
  • Case-they feel like theres grit/sand in it.
  • Screen-this baby looks nice but its gonna get scratched and cracked in a few weeks. Who the hell needs a 3 inch preview screen with better resolution than a HDTV?
  • buttons-slow as heck on transitioning. Push a button and wait a sec or 5.
  • side buttons-why is there a ‘home’ and also a ‘menu’ button? Both of them are detailed cascaded menus.
  • Video-would someone please tell me why the FUCK they would record videos in .mp4? Nice quality but be DAMNED if you’re gonna be able to email them to anyone cause they’re so friggin huge! If you really need that kind of quality, then you’re already a dumbass for trying to get pro-footage with a tiny handheld. No options for changes…only the video output for TV (PAL/NTSC)
  • power-if it ever gets low on batt, then all your albums just locked up and you cant take pics until you spend a hour doing the internal recovery steps.
  • Cradle-this one is the worst. You CANNOT charge it without the cradle. You CANNOT upload pics w/o a cradle. There is the regular powersupply cord with the bulky multivolt box inline (this goes to the cradle). There is the standard Sony camera data cable, except that it cant be plugged into the camera this time—wrong connection on the camera. Gotta use the cradle. How GODDAMN ANNOYING Is THAT!?!?! I guess if everyone that owned cameras had a single PC, in a single room, on a single desk, with room for a permanent fixture like a cradle and its cords….yea, that might work but you cant do anything with the pics until you get back home. 1 Camera, 1 Cable–thats what they used to make. Easily portable. Who the fuck is going to carry a cradle and powercords in their pocket when they goto a game or some other event?
  • carry case-oh right, for $600 dollars you dont get one of these either…how fucking cheap is that? Which brings us back to the screen..tis baby sticks out so theres no such thang’ as pocket time.
  • Memorystick-they accually dissuade the purchase of one of these by letting everyone know that it alreagy has 2 Gig internal mem. You could pull that out to bypass the whole pic transfer thing but it will mess up your settings and album-mem when you goto put it back in.
  • Music-i shit you not, this thing has more options for music organizing than an iPod. What retard in the world needs that on their camera? Better yet, what retard is going to carry around a camera to listen to music? It has a headphone jack, sure, but no friggin data cable jack.
  • Speed-doesnt exist. Turning on is slow enough to ruin your roll. Finding some interesting stuff to photo thats not considered still life? Well then, you’re just screwed. The delay between pics is unreal and whats also not good is that I cant tell you how long it is. It will vary between 2 and 7 seconds…I have no clue why it varies.
