Here’s another Korean dead from swimming on Boracay. There have been a lot over the past few years and it makes ya’ wonder why its usually with snorkel gear. This one even says he was floating with the snorkel still inserted. People, I’ve gone to sleep while snorkeling and floated until the backs of my legs and arms were burned crispy… I’m saying its a comfortable sleep and pretty damn safe (aside from the sunburn) so I find it strange that Koreans have a genetic predisposition to death-by-snorkel that only kicks in when on Boracay Island in the Philippines.
A foreign national got drowning while swimming in the beach at Station 2 in Brgy Balabag, Boracay Island, in Malay, Aklan fronting Le Soleil Resort Sunday morning.
… identified the victim as Gwang Su Choi, male, 32, a Korean National … He and his wife were billeted at the Boracay Garden Resort.
they went swimming at approx 9 AM of May 15, 2011:
After 45 some minutes, his wife noticed that her husband was already floating unconsciously with snorkeling gear still fixed on his mouth.
The wife immediately called for help from the standing-by Philippine Coast Guard patrols.
Also, a concerned citizen who was present at the place and incidentally a doctor, conducted a cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive the victim but there was no response.
Reportedly, the victim was immediately brought to Boracay Municipal Hospital but was declared dead on arrival at around 10:45 AM by the attending physician.
Water sports be a dangerous game for the safety record!
