I had a local recently tell me that a certain girl was the “muse” for a Boracay basketball team. Huh? She kept talking: “you know muse? Angel, she’s their angel”. I started to explain that a muse was a source of creative inspiration, not an angel or spirit, but she cut me off to insist I was wrong.

There’s only 2 usages for muse. The modern usage is a source of inspiration and creativity or the act of thinking over a subject. There is no creativity in basketball. The original usage is a reference to 9 of Zeus’ daughters: the Muses inspired artists, philosophers, musicians, and especially poets.

She should have used a term like ‘patron saint’.

Finally, I got around to finishing the dives required for MSD. Honestly, it should have been done a long time ago considering diving is the main activity on Boracay… but I’m usually too busy drinking and sleeping. All that’s left now is to fill in the electronic PIC’s and the PADI MSD form and Viola! They mail me some cards. Next up is TECREC (Tech I) and Ive already been reading up on the gas theory.

Lifted a massive concrete block from out in the parking area last night thats been abandoned for a while and moved it to our own mooring site. Took a Halcyon 25k and my own 45k lift bag maxed out to move it. thats 70 kilos is 145 pounds… thats not altogather easy to move thru surging water and almost dropped when a clip came loose. Only the tension of double wrapped straps kept it bound to the lift bags.

Xibalba, jeeze I love this word. I mean, I just might get this tattooed on my forehead.

Xibalba is one of the Mayan mythical worlds, this one is not a happy place. I don’t get the impression that its like most hell’s where you automatically go there when you die if not another place like heaven, it seems to be just another place they really don’t want to ever go cause they’re gonna be FOOOKED! Some great wiki quotes:

Roughly translated as “Place of fear”, its the name of the underworld, ruled by Mayan spirits of disease and death…

…It is unclear if the inhabitants of Xibalba are the souls of the deceased or a separate race of beings worshiping death, but they are often depicted as being human-like in form… The first among the Lords of Xibalba were One Death and Seven Death. The remaining ten Lords are often referred to as demons and are given commission and domain over various forms of human suffering: to cause sickness, starvation, fear, destitution, pain, and ultimately death. The remaining residents of Xibalba are thought to have fallen under the dominion of one of these Lords, going about the face of the Earth to carry out their listed duties…

…the Road to Xibalba was filled with obstacles: first a river filled with scorpions, a river filled with blood, and then a river filled with pus.

I mean, how friggin coolis that?!??! A river of pus!
