Leaving Hostel 1632, I had forgotten, is a pain in the ass. You can spend hundreds of dollars there and they make you wait to check-out while they count the towels, mini bar, furniture, and ashtrays… it’s slow. And just like last time, they tried padding the minibar bill with items I didn’t use (and [...]

Coming into Manila was uneventful except I forgot the first visa (28 days) is free and the immigration officer (in military uniform) was shocked when I tried handing him some cash. Oops, my bad!
Stayed at Hostel 1632 next to Robinsons Mall in Ermita and the first room was ghetto as hell. I mean a pure [...]

The Korean Air flight from Stateside was interesting as I had been awake for 45 hours, was having trouble thinking straight, body aches – then a Korean girl (late 20’s) starts flipping out. She complained of stomach pain but couldn’t describe it, then looked confused, tired, tried wandering around. They isolated her to the back, [...]

The trip started rather well, plenty of time with everything going smoothly & on time.
One thing that put me off was in the DFW terminal (Dallas Ft Worth) which is insanely huge. Loved it but c’mon, $8.00 for a tuna sandwich?
There were Border Control guards at the loading ramp of Korean Airlines… AFTER you’ve scanned [...]

Is there a curse on planes that visit the Caticlan airport servicing Boracay in the Philippines? Now we have one that had just left Caticlan and slides off the runway in Manila. Just a month ago, another SeAir plane had a jacked-up landing there.

MANILA — A plane carrying 32 people from the Philippines resort island [...]

Things have taken a lot longer than I anticipated and still haven’t gotten screened for whatever diseases I’ve likely picked up in S.E. Asia. Keep extending the stay, the hotels, the trips, the car rental… about $4,000 spent for the current 3 weeks.
Computer’s been wigging out and I suspect its from some virus. Ever since, [...]

Leaving Boracay was a pain that started with some east-euro guy asking if I was leaving – yea, I don’t mind pausing my trudge uphill with luggage in the oppressive heat to stop and have a chat. Next was the resident/non fees. I’m just about sick that people keep telling me “just tell them you’re [...]

Heading Stateside

Yup, first time in the US since 2004. Woke up around midnight-30 and slowly packing, hopefully ready for departure around noonish – the place I’m staying has mixed comments about having an internet cafe’- versus having wi-fi, so I’m not sure how connected I’ll be – and you know I get all wiggy without my [...]

Theres been another crash by Zest Air at the Caticlan airport that serves as entrance to Boracay. Although no-one was hurt this time, its a troubeling trend for the airliner.
In the January 2009 crash, (truly a crash), they painted over all the Zest Air markings and colors within hours of impact. Seems that almost all [...]

Dude gets drunk on a plane, stands up, whips it out, and pisses on the old lady. Funny part? A BATF-E agent sitting one row back just watches.
The victim was headed to Hawaii on March 21 for a scuba diving vacation and was watching an in-flight movie when Kingzio stood up next to her aisle [...]

MANILA, Philippines — President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo wants Boracay Island cleared of moss that gathered on the island-resort’s waters. The President gave the order after hosting visiting Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Michael Somare there last weekend, during which she noticed moss encroaching into the shoreline, a report of online news site Visayan Daily Star (www.visayandailystar.com) [...]

To tell the truth, I’m not really bored. Just trying to put off doing things that I need to do and my back feels better laying on the bed with my laptop rather than sitting or standing while doing the same procrastination. The others would have me watching TV and shifting about the room, but this [...]

Yup, I’m in Manila now. As it usually happens, the decision was made after staying up all night drinking. I didn’t eat during that whole day/night and had a cheap sammich (with beer) in the airport lounge. Got to my hotel sometime around 11am yesterday, still drunk.  1st stop: EZ Mart for some booze! Told [...]

I’m sick and tired of this crap, just too damn much all at once.
It  came time to goto Manila for a wedding, cool! 2 days to fly, jesus christ I feel like crap. cant get any airlines on the phones. stay inside. The next day blows:

I rehydrate all night, wake to find my skin itchy [...]

Bus Notes: Part 2

I asked why there were so many police check points along one section of road. The answer: New Peoples Army. Yup, the NPA was in the mountains to my left. The person described them as revolutionaries that went after corrupt government officials and business leaders. I’m not sure what I should read into that. They [...]

Bus notes: Part 1

There is certainly a difference between deluxe and the cheaper first class buses of Partas lines. Perhaps its’ due to the time of day, but first class is a step above chaos, a small step. Its not the bus itself but the operations and atmosphere.
The deluxe was P805 for a 7 hour trip from Manila [...]

I got a wild hair up my ass and headed to Manila. I don’t really remember much about it but they said I arrived around 7pm. Audie invited me to stay with him in the Manila townhouse where we partied with B1, M, J1, G, S, J2, A, C, B2, and some girl that cant [...]

During a canine customs training event, using real passenger bags instead of training bags, they lost “a package of cannabis”. Someone just got some weed from the Tokyo cops!

Boracay is slammed with brown-outs, poor water, and horribly humid weather.
